Constructora MPM delivers the second longest tunnel in the country

The Yanango tunnel is a subway road located in the department of Junin, province of Chanchamayo. For this project, Constructora MPM and Construcciones y Promociones Balzola formed Consorcio Yanango and executed the works for an investment of 91 million Soles.

The Yanango creek had become one of the most problematic passages on the Tarma - La Merced route due to the constantly increasing river flow, several landslides and the frequent siltation of the river.

The Yanango highway tunnel is designed to solve this problem and, undoubtedly, one of the most needed infrastructures ever implemented in this area of Peru. The tunnel of 1,025 meters long, thus becoming the second longest tunnel in Peru after the Punta Olímpica Tunnel, located on the Asunción-Carhuaz route in Ancash.

Esta obra beneficiará a 75 mil familias de comerciantes de provincias productoras y turísticas de Chanchamayo y Satipo en Junín, Oxapampa en Pasco y Puerto Inca en Huánuco.

Execution

The execution of Yanango Tunnel comprised 5 stages: The first comprised the provisional detour at the exit gate. The second comprised the mock tunnel at the entrance and exit gate. The third comprised the tunnel excavation and ventilation chimney. The fourth comprised backfill works, pavement and ditches. Finally, the fifth comprised the lighting, signaling and waterproofing works.

In each of these stages, the latest construction systems were used, such as anchor bolts, shotcrete using metallic fibers, electro-welded meshes and metal trusses, among others. Thereby, the durability of the work is guaranteed. Additionally, the tunnel has fireproofing, micro-pile umbrellas and counter-vault systems to ensure its future stability.

Quality Certifications

Both companies have international certifications ISO 9001- Quality Management Systems; ISO 14001 - Environmental Management Systems; OHSAS 18001 - Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series. Due to the compliance with these rigorous standards, the project was successfully completed with no mortal accidents, thus making the Yanango Tunnel a high value and utility project for the central rainforest and the whole country.
